Description
Joint Task Force 2 (JTF2) is an elite special forces contingent of the military of Canada, founded on 1 April 1993. JTF2 was created in response to the public's anger that the Royal Canadian Mounted Police's recruits were being trained primarily with lethal solutions, and JTF2 took over the RCMP's violent tasks. JTF2 had 100 personnel at creation, and its personnel assisted in taking out Serbian snipers during the Bosnian War, repelled revolutionaries in Haiti in 1993, took part in ground operations during the Afghanistan War and the Iraq War, and trained Iraqi Army personnel during the Iraqi Civil War. After the 9/11 attacks, JTF2's strength was increased to 600 personnel, but its strength in 2016 was classified.
