Description
Mustered out on May 1st, 1861 the 2nd New Jersey to serve a temporal three month service. Only to be brought back a month later to participate in the deadliest and intense battles of the American Civil War. Starting out to build defenses around Washington to then participate in the Second Battle of Bull Run. Successfully covering the retreat of Major General Pope Army to Centreville. Also partaking in the bloodiest disaster the Army saw to take at Fredericksburg. Recovering and fortifying the defense of the United States at Gettysburg.
