Description
The 2nd Infantry Regiment “Kronprinz” was a unit of the Bavarian Army that was originally established in 1682 under the name “Degenfeld zu Fuß” by Elector Max Emanuel for the Electoral Bavarian Army. In the 19th century, this unit evolved into a regiment of the Bavarian Army known as the 2nd Infantry Regiment “Kronprinz.” Its coat of arms bore the initials of its founder: Maximilian, Emanuel, Elector. During the Electoral Palatinate-Bavarian period beginning in 1778, the regiment was included in the newly created roster as the 2nd Line Infantry Regiment “Kronprinz.” The following designations were subsequently introduced for classification purposes: 1682/7, Infantry Regiment No. 2.[3] In the 17th and 18th centuries, regiments bore only the name of their regimental owner.
