The New Zealand Army (Māori: Ngāti Tūmatauenga) is the land warfare component of the New Zealand Defence Force responsible for offense, defence, peace-keeping, and peace-making operations on land in service of the national interests of Aotearoa New Zealand. Formed in 1909 as the New Zealand Military Forces and adopting its current name in 1950, the army today operates from 6 army camps and other support facilities across the motu.
