𝐕𝐨𝐥𝐮𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐞𝐫 𝐀𝐮𝐱𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐚𝐫𝐲 𝐂𝐨𝐫𝐩𝐬 - 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐊𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐮𝐜𝐤𝐲 𝐕𝐨𝐥𝐮𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐞𝐫𝐬 The Kentucky Volunteers, sometimes referred to as the Newport Rifles or Kentucky Mustangs, were organized in 1835 in the state of Kentucky as a volunteer company composed of American citizens who entered Texian service during the Texas Revolution. Raised from local communities and frontier populations, the unit formed as part of the wider movement of volunteers traveling from the United States to support the Texian cause. Unlike more formally equipped companies, they reflected the typical character of southern volunteer forces, relying on personal arms and decentralized leadership rather than standardized organization. Their service represents the broader influx of independently raised companies that reinforced the Texian army in its early stages, prior to the establishment of a regular military structure under the Republic of Texas. 1835-1836
