Description

The Kingdom of Italy is an Southern European state situated on the Italian peninsula. For centuries, Italy was known as the centre for arts and culture in Europe, being the driving force behind the renaissance, banking and merchant republics. By the time of the 19th century and the end of the Napoleonic Wars, desire for unification was growing - this was eventually achieved under Vittorio Emmanuele II of Sardinia, who became King of Italy.
