Description
The 33rd Ranger Battalion was part of the ARVN, they were light infantry capable of conducting S&D and counter insurgency. ARVN rangers in general were trained/over saw by US Special Forces and Rangers. The 33rd is part of the 5th Ranger Group (which also includes the 34th and 38th Ranger Battalion). During the Tet Offensive the 5th Ranger Group was called up to defend Saigon against VC and PAVN forces from their advancement on Saigon during Operation Quyet Thang. The 33rd also was involved in assisting US Cavalry Forces to attack the Phú Thọ Racetrack in Saigon where VC forces were holding.
