Colfax County, New Mexico #5041764
Description
1879, The Civil War is over and the resulting economic explosions and the great migration to the west. Farmers, ranchers, outlaws and thieves seek their fortunes. Cattle drivers turn cow towns into armed camps. Cimarron was officially created in 1859 and was named for the Spanish word meaning "wild". Cimarron was the county seat of Colfax County beginning in 1872, when it replaced Elizabethtown. At that time, Cimarron was a stage stop on the Mountain Branch of the Santa Fe Trail. Many outlaws from other States saw Cimarron as an opportunity to cause Crime and make Gangs. Some did not think twice on joining the Cowboys.
