Description
"𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐏𝐀𝐓𝐇𝐅𝐈𝐍𝐃𝐄𝐑𝐒" 🐺 The Cohors I Batavorum, or First Cohort of Batavians, was a renowned auxiliary unit in the Roman Imperial army, originally recruited from the Batavi tribe in the Rhine delta (modern-day Netherlands). Known for their exceptional strength, loyalty, and swimming prowess, the Batavians held a special status among Roman auxiliary forces. Their elite reputation made them valuable shock troops, often deployed in key battles across the empire. The Cohors I Batavorum was likely a mixed unit of infantry and cavalry and is most famously associated with the Legio XX Valeria Victrix, one of the legions stationed in Roman Britain during the first and second centuries CE. Their presence on the island played a crucial role in maintaining Roman control and suppressing uprisings, particularly during the early phases of Roman occupation.
