Description

The 82nd Airborne Division is one of the most distinguished and feared U.S. Army units. They are an elite American airborne division, having been the first airborne division in all of American military history. During the Second World War, they went on patrols in the North African campaign and a combat jump into the areas of Sicily and Italy for the Italian campaign. The 82nd Airborne Division would then also make a combat jump into Normandy, France, during Operation Overlord, holding the line against all odds against the German forces at La Fiere and Ste. Mere-Eglise heroically. They would then go on to jump into the Netherlands as a part of Operation MARKET-GARDEN, unleashing a forlorn hope assault on the Waal river under heavy enemy fire, yet still succeeding. Like all of the other airborne units, they would invade Germany. The 82nd Airborne Division to this day is still renowned as one of the first units to the battlefield.
