92nd (Gordon Hіghlanders) Regiment of Foot #5200747
Description
𝐇𝐄𝐀𝐕𝐘 𝐋𝐈𝐍𝐄 𝐈𝐍𝐅𝐀𝐍𝐓𝐑𝐘 𝑁𝑒𝑚𝑜 𝑚𝑒 𝑖𝑚𝑝𝑢𝑛𝑒 𝑙𝑎𝑐𝑒𝑠𝑠𝑖𝑡. The 92nd Regiment of Foot was raised in Aberdeenshire by General Gordon, 5th Duke of Gordon, as the 100th (Gordon Highlanders) Regiment of Foot. The regiment was re-ranked as the 92nd (Highlander) Regiment of Foot in October 1798. In the Napoleonic Wars, the regiment embarked for Portugal in July 1808 for service in the Peninsular War. It served under Lieutenant-General Sir John Moore at the Battle of Corunna in January 1809 and subsequent evacuation. At Waterloo, this regiment played a key role in the Battle of Quarte-B, defending the disputed crossroads. Two days later, the Gordons clung to the stirrups of the passing Scot Greys so that they could reach the French forces after facing them head on. 𝐂𝐀𝐏: UNCAPPED
