Description
U.S Forces in the Philippines EST: 2025 - PRESENT In 1899, the U.S. Army's 800 officers and 20,000 enlisted men were engaged in the Philippine-American War against Filipino nationalists seeking independence, following Spain's cession of the Philippines to the U.S. in the Treaty of Paris. The war began with clashes near Manila in February 1899, and U.S. forces, led by officers like Maj. Gen. Elwell S. Otis, launched campaigns to capture key towns and establish control over the islands, though they initially sought to fight a conventional war before shifting to counterinsurgency tactics.
