Description
The République Française, or French Republic (Also called Revolutionary France and the First French Republic), established following the French Revolution in 1792 was the first government of France following the abolition of its monarchy. It lasted until 1805, when it would be destroyed by Napoleon Bonaparte with the establishment of the Empire Français. In the time that it existed, the République Française was a highly turbulent state, with the reign of terror occuring under its watch. Having a unicameral legislature, they would establish a Committee of Public Safety following the legislatures-the Convention Nationale-'s failure to stabilize the situation, with rebellions in Britanny and Toulon as well as failures in what would come to be called the Napoleonic Wars. Liberté, égalité, fraternité!
