Description

"𝗔𝗹𝘀 𝗵𝗲𝘁 𝗲𝗿𝗼𝗽 𝗮𝗮𝗻 𝗸𝗼𝗺𝘁" "𝘞𝘩𝘦𝘯 𝘪𝘵 𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘦𝘴 𝘥𝘰𝘸𝘯 𝘵𝘰 𝘪𝘵" The Corps de Maréchaussée is the military police and gendarmerie force of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, responsible for maintaining public order, enforcing military and civilian law, and supporting national security operations. As a branch of the Dutch armed forces, the Corps carries out military policing, border security, and protective duties both domestically and abroad. The Corps was established on 26 October 1814 by King William I of the Netherlands to replace the former French Gendarmerie following the end of French occupation. The title “Maréchaussée” was chosen instead of “gendarmerie,” as the latter had gained negative associations during the Napoleonic era. Originally formed as part of the Dutch Army, the Corps was tasked with preserving civil order, policing the armed forces, and securing major roads throughout the kingdom.
