Description

The Guard Regiment was one of the early military units created to protect the government of the Belarusian People’s Republic during the chaotic final phase of World War I. The Belarusian Guard Regiment (sometimes called the 1st Belarusian Guard Regiment) was a national military formation made up of Belarusian soldiers. Its main roles were: • Protecting the leadership of the Belarusian People’s Republic • Maintaining order in Minsk • Serving as a symbolic national army unit for the new state It was formed in early 1918, shortly after the BNR declared independence on March 25, 1918.
