Description
The Bulkeley Infanterie, part of the French Royal Army’s Irish Brigade, was formed in 1690 from Jacobite exiles fleeing Ireland after the Williamite War, initially serving under King James II to oppose English rule. Renamed in 1730 for its colonel, the regiment fought with distinction in the War of the Spanish Succession, including Malplaquet, and shone at Fontenoy in 1745 during the War of the Austrian Succession, before merging with the Régiment de Dillon in 1775 due to wartime losses.
