Description
Augusta, città siciliana in provincia di Siracusa, fu fondata nel 1232 da Federico II di Svevia nei pressi dell’antica Megara Hyblaea. Sorge sul Mar Ionio e il suo centro storico si trova su un’isola collegata alla terraferma da due ponti. Ricca di storia e cultura, Augusta fu importante base militare e porto strategico durante la Seconda Guerra Mondiale. Oggi unisce patrimonio barocco, fortificazioni seicentesche e aree naturali come Brucoli e Agnone Bagni. La città è nota anche per il culto di San Domenico, celebrato il 24 maggio.
