Description
The Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) is one of the major political parties in Japan, founded in 1955 through the merger of two conservative parties. It has been the dominant political force in Japan for much of the post-World War II era, holding power for nearly all of that time, except for a few brief periods. The LDP is characterized by its center-right policies and strong support for free market economics, while often prioritizing national security and a pro-American foreign policy. In recent years, the LDP has focused on issues such as constitutional reform, specifically aiming to revise Japan's post-war pacifist constitution to allow for a more proactive military stance.
