Description
The 21st was one of the five legions used by Druso the Elder to stifle a revolt between the 15th-16th century BC. It was eventually displaced to Castra Regina (Regensburg, Germany), capital of the new province of Romania. Following the military disaster of the battle of the Teutoburg Forest, in which the seventeenth, eighteenth, and nineteenth legions were annihilated in a revolt of the Kerusks, the twenty-first Rapax was sent as reinforcement to Lower Germania. During this period, he shared the base of Castra Vetera (Xanten, Germany) with V Alaudae. The two were involved in a riot in 14 AD. In 43, they were mobilized to Vindonissa (Windisch, Switzerland) in Upper Germania.
