Description
Founded in the early 13th century by Saint Dominic de Guzmán, the Order of Preachers (Ordo Prædicatorum, abbreviated as O.P.) is a Roman Catholic religious order dedicated to preaching the Gospel and defending the faith through intellectual charity. This unique synthesis of study, prayer, community, and service allowed them to effectively meet the pressing spiritual and intellectual needs of the medieval world. The Priory of Saint Dominic in Pontianak alongside with the Saint Thomas Aquinas House of Formation in Surabaya, serves as a vital community where modern Dominican aspirants, postulants, novices, and friars discern and pursue their vocational calling. Through local pastoral engagement and education, the priory and the formation house dynamically carries forward the legacy of its patron saint to serve the spiritual and intellectual needs of the contemporary Indonesian Church.
