Jo ne s and John Ba rr y as the Continental Navy, a band of mostly privateers, which was disbanded after the American Revolution but reformed in 1794 due to the Naval Act and Barbary Wars. Today, it is headquartered in Washington, D.C. It is the largest and most capable navy in the world. It has the highest battle fleet tonnage and the largest aircraft carrier fleet. It has over 300,000 sailors in active duty and over 100,000 in reserves. It is the third largest US military branch, having 290 deployable combat vessels and more than 3,700 operational aircraft.
