Description
The Counter Assault Team (CAT) provides direct, tactical support to Secret Service protective details, including those of the President and Vice President of the United States. CAT personnel receive advanced training in weapons handling, tactics and decision making. CAT’s primary function is to divert, suppress and neutralize an organized attack against a protectee, motorcade or supported location. To accomplish their mission, CAT personnel conduct thorough tactical advance planning and extensive coordination with supporting tactical entities. It provides tactical support to the Presidential Protective Division to protect the President of the United States. This is in contrast to the Presidential Protective Division whose mission is to shield the president from an attack and to evacuate the president to a place of safety. The Counter Assault Team (CAT) can also provide tactical support to others who need protecting, at venues, and National product Security Events.
