Description
IMPERIVM ROMANVM Anno CLXX p. Chr. n. From the forests of Gaul to the deserts of Judea, the Roman Empire stretches across most of Europe and into Africa and Asia Minor. All of this vast territory is controlled by a single city turned superpower: Rome. One hundred and ninety-seven years ago, Julius Caesar was assassinated by senators in the heart of Rome, plunging the Republic into a series of brutal civil wars. The conflict finally ended in 27 BCE when Octavian, Caesar’s adopted heir, took the name Augustus and became the first Emperor of Rome. It is now the year 170 AD, and under the wise and steady rule of Emperor Marcus Aurelius, the Empire continues to enjoy the long era of relative peace, economic prosperity, political stability, and military strength known as the Pax Romana — though dark clouds are gathering on the frontiers.
