Description

At the peak of the Tambov uprising in the Tambov province, on May 20, 1921, a rally in support of the rebels was held in the village of Karai-Saltykovo in the Kirsanovsky district, organized by the command of the United Partisan Army of the Tambov region, the Union of Labor Peasants, and the civil administration. Pyotr Tokmakov, as one of the organizers and leaders of the uprising, announced the establishment of the Provisional Democratic Republic of the Tambov Partisan Region, and one of the most active participants in the uprising and a member of the Union of Labor Peasants, the peasant Shendyapin, was elected as the head of the republic. Immediately after the declaration of independence, a full mobilization of the male population aged 20 to 60 was announced. After increasing the army to 70,000 soldiers, active military operations were launched to completely eliminate the Bolsheviks' rule in the republic.
