𝗡𝗢𝗥𝗧𝗛 𝗔𝗧𝗟𝗔𝗡𝗧𝗜𝗖 𝗧𝗥𝗘𝗔𝗧𝗬 𝗢𝗥𝗚𝗔𝗡𝗜𝗭𝗔𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡 𝗖𝗘𝗡𝗧𝗥𝗔𝗟 𝗜𝗡𝗧𝗘𝗟𝗟𝗜𝗚𝗘𝗡𝗖𝗘 𝗔𝗚𝗘𝗡𝗖𝗬 𝗦𝗘𝗖𝗥𝗘𝗧 𝗜𝗡𝗧𝗘𝗟𝗟𝗜𝗚𝗘𝗡𝗖𝗘 𝗦𝗘𝗥𝗩𝗜𝗖𝗘 "𝗦𝗶𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗼 𝗟𝗶𝗯𝗲𝗿𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗺 𝗦𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗼" Operation Gladio was a secret NATO-backed stay-behind network established after World War II to resist potential Soviet invasions of Western Europe. Covertly organized by the CIA, MI6, and national intelligence agencies, it trained operatives in sabotage, espionage, and guerrilla warfare. Though intended as a defense mechanism, Gladio became notorious for its involvement in anti-communist operations, political manipulation, and attack on domestic civilians across countries, particularly in Italy during the Cold War. Its existence was publicly exposed in the 1990s, revealing a clandestine infrastructure that operated outside democratic oversight across at least 14 European countries.
