Description
The Free State of Mettenheim (Mettenheim: Vrijstaat van Mettenheim) is a republican state established by the Mettenheim people, claiming territory that includes the entire island of Mettenheim and the surrounding Starswapt Isle. It exercises de facto control over ten provinces in the Turpendan region of Mettenheim Island and a small portion of northern Liège. The country has a General Assembly (Staten-Generaal) as its governing body and a President of the Free State as its head of state. The armed forces of the Free State are known as the Mettenheim Wehrmacht (standard language: Mettenheim Defence Force). Since the 1960s, it has become a military junta state, meaning the country is effectively governed by its own military today. The Free State consistently pursues the unification of Mettenheim, viewing the High Kingdom as its arch-rival and completely rejecting the legitimacy of the Liège-Turpendan Provincial Principality.
