Description
The Special Forces Command, commonly known as Kopassus, is a strategic combat unit of the Indonesian Army. It operates under a three-star general known as the Commander of Kopassus. The organization consists of several brigade-level formations referred to as Groups, including Group 1 / Para Commando, Group 2 / Para Commando, and Unit 71 / Sandhi Yudha. Each Group oversees several battalions, while the Training and Education Center manages the development of future special forces members and advanced specialization programs. Kopassus also maintains a highly specialized tactical response unit known as Unit 81. Each formation within Kopassus possesses distinct capabilities, including airborne operations, deep reconnaissance, and high-risk tactical response. In its wartime operational role, Kopassus is responsible for missions such as direct action, strategic strikes on critical targets, combat search-and-rescue, and advanced field intelligence.
