𝐍𝐀𝐓𝐈𝐎𝐍𝐀𝐋 𝐏𝐄𝐎𝐏𝐋𝐄'𝐒 𝐀𝐑𝐌𝐘 The National People's Army, often addressed by its German acronym NVA, is the backbone of the Republic's defenses. It houses the Land, Air, Sea, and Border forces of the nation, and was founded in 1956 to replace the Soviet-controlled Kasernierte Volkspolizei, a civil police unit comprised almost entirely of Soviet agents within the occupation zone.
