Description
기동특무부대(Mobile Task Force; MTF)란 재단 곳곳에서 선발된 인원들로 구성된 엘리트 집단이다. 이들은 일반 현장 인력들의 작전 능력이나 기술을 넘어서는 위협 또는 상황에 대처하기 위해 동원된다. 또한 명칭에서 시사하는 바와 같이, 시설들이나 위치들 사이를 이동하면서 그들이 필요한 곳에서 활동한다. 필요한 경우 해당 지역의 공권력 집행 기관이나 군사 조직 등 적절한 신원으로 위장하는 경우도 드물지 않다. 기동특무부대는 전투, 잠입, 공작, 추적 등 다양한 임무에 특화된 부대가 존재한다. 이러한 창설 목적에 따라 부대의 규모나 인적 구성, 활동 방식은 크게 달라진다. 주로 분대에서 대대 사이의 인원수로 구성되는 각 기동특무부대 조직은 언제나 유동적이며, 개별 부대는 장기적으로 유지되기도 하고 맡은 바 소임을 다한 후 해산되기도 한다. 전투 병력, 현장 요원, 과학자와 기술자 등 어떤 인원이라도 임무에 필요하다면 특무부대원으로 차출될 수 있다. 확실한 것은 그들은 자신의 담당 영역에서 누구보다 확실한 전문성을 갖춘 "최고 중의 최고"의 인재라는 것이다.
