Grenadier-Garde-Battalion #576719567
Description
The Grenadier-Garde Battalion, also known as Infantry Regiment No. 6 and popularly linked with the Potsdam “Giants,” was the monarch’s elite guard formation closely associated with the royal household. Under Frederick the Great, it was reorganized and, on 3 August 1740, reduced to a single battalion while retaining full guard privileges; much of the former guard establishment was reassigned to the new Garde Regiment, and thereafter the unit commonly took the name of its appointed chef. It centered on close protection, ceremonial duties in Potsdam, rigorous drill, and high standards of appearance, and it was visually distinctive for its use of grenadier caps within the Prussian Guard tradition.
