Description
House Mortaigne are loyalists of the Old Empire, a lineage stretching back before the Fracture shattered Grothmar into the fractious powers that exist today. Their loyalty to the Empire cost them dearly when it fell, and they currently hold no formal seat of power, though they stubbornly claim the territory of Waystead as their ancestral right. The house is headed by François de Mortaigne, a pale and quietly unsettling man of indeterminate age, whose bloodline carries something old in it that slows the aging of those who carry it fully. The vampire rumors have followed the house for generations. François has never bothered correcting them. They maintain careful neutrality toward the Western Powers, the Orthodoxy, and the Church of Iomedae alike. Their real currency is patience and carefully placed favors. The claim on Waystead is not forgotten. It is simply waiting.
