Description
The Northville State Police were created by an Act of the Legislature following the publishment of the First State Constitution in 1980. The functions of the department are centered around a civilian Director, nominated by the Governor and confirmed by the Senate, that has exclusive authority, direction and control over the Department of State Police. The Director appoints from among the members of the State Police a Colonel, who oversees the management and day-to-day operations of the department with authority and tasks delegated by the Director. The main focus of the State Police is that of government protection, namely that of structures and officials, and policing state highway systems. The State Police also maintains an intelligence branch that focuses on domestic investigations.
