Description
In 1986, members of county and state law enforcement agencies petitioned the Governor for a standardized law enforcement institute to ensure standardization of education, namely in terms of jurisdiction, local and state law, and proper policing. This came after a small insurrection in 1984 by a socialist militia, in which numerous law enforcement officers lost their lives due to lack of communication, no central communication, and differing commands and call outs. Following the petition, the Legislature enacted the "Standardization of Law Enforcement Standards Act" which outlined a state cabinet-level agency which would manage all certifications of law enforcement officers in the State. It called for a Director and Instructors to ensure proper standards, compliance, ethics, and procedure for all law enforcement officers within the State of Northville.
