Description
In 2004, the State Legislature directed an investigatory committee into wildfires occurring within State Parks, both man-made and natural. The conclusion came about that to better provide park safety, fire prevention, and general conservation of wildlife, a formal state agency must be formed and all county park services absorbed into it. This department would become the now Parks and Wildlife. The department is led by a Director who by law is permitted to fire, train, and staff the department with competent and capable individuals with the departments ultimate goal and duty being the preservation of all designated state parks, historical sites, and maintaining oversight of such sites.
