Description
The 20th Maine was organized in the state of Maine and mustered into Federal service on August 29, 1862. The 20th Maine fought in several battles before their famous actions at Gettysburg. Some of these battles were Antietam, Fredericksburg and Chancellorsville. During the Battle of Gettysburg the 20th Maine defended Little Round Top against continuous rebel attacks when the 20th managed to push the rebels back with a bayonet charge down the hill. The 20th Maine was mustered out of service in 1865 following the end of the American Civil War. Regimental Capacity: 40
