21. Bavarian-American 'Guards' Infantry Division, 'Reinhard's Death Pioneers' is a penal unit set up by Field Marshal Reinhard Model on 8th April 1942 consisting of both American defectors and Bavarian State convicted criminals. The personnel of the division are referred to as 'death pioneers' and divided between Americans and Bavarians. The inner discipline of the division is bad due to discrimination nature, summing up cases of deaths. Due to this, stricter measurements were put into places. 14th April of 1942, honour guards were introduced to the division as the Field Marshal Reinhard's frontline escort. 14th July 1944, the division was converted into the first Guards infantry division with a tank company. 1945, the division was encircled by the USSR and with the forces marching from the West, eventually succumbed to destruction. Its pacific detachment was returned to Munich and the remnants of it were transferred to other operable units.
