Muscovite Tsardom' #5932509
OtherENhistoryrussiaeducational
Description
Under Ivan the terrible and his successors, the term "Moscow state" was used in a narrow sense and was identical with the ancient Moscow Principality. The full title of the tsars included the names of previously independent Russian principalities and republics, to which the term "States"was eventually applied. The entire territory, which was under the rule of the Tsar and was called the Russian Kingdom, was understood by contemporaries as a conglomerate of these States-principalities, that is, as a set of thrones occupied by a single monarch. The phrase "Moscow state of The Russian tsardom" found in various documents and works referred only to the Central region of The Russian tsardom, including the location of the tsarist throne. In the same vein, we should understand the name of the famous literary monument of the French traveler Jacques Margeret — "the State of the Russian state and the Grand Duchy of Moscow", written in 1608.
