Description
The Union Army was formed on February 28th, 1861 when President Abraham Lincoln called upon 75,000 Volunteers to face against the newly formed Confederate States. By the end of the war, over 2,000,000 men served in the Union. Almost 600,000 of them perished. The Civil War started with the firing upon Fort Sumter by Confederate general P.G.T Beauregard. The siege started at 4:30 a.m. on April Twelfth. Sumter was bombarded for 33 hours until the Major surrendered the fort.
