Alpha Kappa Alpha is a sorority that cultivates and promotes unity, leadership, friendship, sisterhood, beauty, and intelligence to help each of our sisters grow into womanhood. We are not just a group but we are a sisterhood. On January 15 in the year of 1908 Alpha Kappa Alpha Incorporated was founded by Ethel Hedgeman and 19 other beautiful ladies. Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated was the first African American female sorority to be established at Howard University.
