Description
In 122 AD, Egypt stood as a sovereign and defiant kingdom, having resisted Roman conquest and preserved its ancient royal authority. Relations with Rome were openly hostile, driven by control of the Nile and its vital grain. Though Egypt remained independent, Rome occupied the sacred city of Thebes, transforming it into a fortified frontier marked by unrest and constant tension. Egyptian forces and Roman legions faced one another across an uneasy divide, with both powers preparing for a wider war.
