Description
The Czechoslovak Socialist Republic (ČSSR) was the official name of Czechoslovakia from 1960 to 1990. It was a socialist state in Central Europe and a member of the Eastern Bloc during the Cold War. The country consisted of the Czech Socialist Republic and the Slovak Socialist Republic. The Communist Party of Czechoslovakia (KSČ) held the leading political position and followed Marxism-Leninism. The KSČ had major influence over the government, economy, media, education and public life, while Czechoslovakia maintained close relations with the Soviet Union and other socialist states. The country had a planned economy and extensive state-owned industries. The period was characterized by political restrictions, censorship and limited political pluralism.
