The Major Breakthrough 1980s #6203242

Description
The Major Breakthrough In 1983, Operation Able Archer triggered the European invasion by the Soviets, who believed it was a sign of an imminent NATO attack. The European nations were caught off guard, resulting in a significant loss of territory. The US responded by mobilizing troops and implementing a draft. Meanwhile, the Soviets launched a land invasion of the US West Coast, Alaska, and Hawaii, aiming to disable anti-nuke defense lasers. By August, they reached the Rocky Mountains, taking out 3 of the 9 defense lasers. The US shifted its focus to Europe, defending France and Germany. A Soviet strike on the US power grid & NORAD shattered the stalemate. US intercepted & destroyed warheads, but NORAD hit, causing landslide & trapping tech. The US launched a near-all-out strike, Soviets countered ineffectively. Devastated cities, 60% population lost. Chaos, disarray, the US fractured post-war.
