Description
During the First World War (1914–1918), the Ottoman Empire, one of the oldest and largest empires in the world, entered the conflict on the side of the Central Powers alongside Germany and Austria-Hungary. Although the empire had been weakened by decades of territorial losses, political instability, and economic difficulties, its leaders hoped that joining the war would restore its international standing and protect it from further partition by the Allied powers.
