Description

The South Eastern Regional Command ( အရှေ့တောင်တိုင်းစစ်ဌာနချုပ် ), of the Myanmar Army was established as part of the Tatmadaw’s post-independence regional command structure, tasked with securing the volatile frontier regions of Mon State, Kayin State, and the northern Tanintharyi corridor. From its headquarters in Mawlamyine, the command inherited a mandate shaped by decades of armed resistance in the southeast, where the Karen National Union (KNU) and affiliated armed groups maintained strongholds deep in the jungle.
