Description

The South Eastern Regional Command ( အရှေ့တောင်တိုင်းစစ်ဌာနချုပ် ), of the Myanmar Army was established as part of the Tatmadaw’s post-independence regional command structure, tasked with securing the volatile frontier regions of Mon State, Kayin State, and the northern Tanintharyi corridor. From its headquarters in Mawlamyine, the command inherited a mandate shaped by decades of armed resistance in the southeast, where the Karen National Union (KNU) and affiliated armed groups maintained strongholds deep in the jungle. The command typically oversees several infantry divisions and battalions, along with support units, and functions as part of the Tatmadaw’s broader system of regional military commands that maintain control over Myanmar’s states and regions.
