Description
The 1st Armored Division, Nicknamed “Old Ironsides,” is a historic United States Army division activated on July 15, 1940. It was one of the first American armored divisions established before the United States entered World War II. The division played a major role in the Allied campaign in North Africa, beginning with Operation Torch in November 1942, and later fought in Italy. Its soldiers operated tanks, armored vehicles, and supporting equipment while working alongside infantry and other combat units.
