𝟔𝟗𝐭𝐡 𝐍𝐞𝐰 𝐘𝐨𝐫𝐤 𝐕𝐨𝐥𝐮𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐞𝐫 𝐈𝐧𝐟𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐲 𝐑𝐞𝐠𝐢𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 "𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐅𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝟔𝟗𝐭𝐡" The 69th New York began as a militia regiment formed in the state of New York in 1849. Composed mostly of Irish immigrants, the regiment was notable in its pre-war existence for its snubbing of the Prince of Wales during an official visit in 1860. During the Civil War, the regiment saw extensive combat in the Eastern Theater and was renowned for its bravery in battles such as at Antietam, Fredericksburg and Gettysburg. The regiment would gain the title of "The Fighting 69th" where at Malvern Hill, their charge drove off the CS's famed Louisiana Tigers. After the war, the regiment would remain part of the New York National Guard.
