Description
The 𝗖𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗱𝗶𝗮𝗻 𝗙𝗼𝗿𝗰𝗲𝘀 𝗟𝗲𝗴𝗮𝗹 𝗕𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗵 (𝗖𝗙𝗟𝗕) is the federal military organization responsible for delivering legal services, oversight, and advice to the Canadian Armed Forces and the Department of National Defence. The Legal Branch supports commanders, policymakers, and operational units across all environments. Its officers include military lawyers, legal advisors, military justice specialists, and administrative law experts who ensure that operations, decisions, and directives comply with Canadian law, international law, and the Code of Service Discipline. The Legal Branch operates under the National Defence Act and oversees: • Military justice and courts martial • Operational and international law • Administrative, regulatory, and policy law • Legal education and professional standards The Canadian Forces Legal Branch reports to the Judge Advocate General (JAG), who in turn advises the Minister of National Defence and the Government of Canada.
