"May all Dwarves unite in defense of this home" - Runes etched onto the secret entrance to Erebor After the dwarves had to flee from Khazad-dûm because of the threat of Durin's bane, a new dwarven homeland was needed, In T.A. 1999 Thráin I led the first dwarves to Erebor, and carved its great halls and mines, In such mines they found the great Arkenstone and some of the men of Rhovanion built the great city of dale to trade with the dwarves of the lonely mountain. Thráin's son, Thorin I abandoned the mountain in T.A. 2210, Changing the capital of Durin's folk to Dáin's halls in the grey mountains, but after the war of the dwarves and dragons, they lost the grey mountains to the hordes of dragons, most dwarves went back to Erebor, re-establishing it as the capital of Durin's folk.
