His New Model Army was highly disciplined and well trained. Associated with the excesses of Cromwell's Commonwealth, however, it was disbanded by Charles II in 1660 except for a household brigade, now the Coldstream Guards. In the modern era, the British Army comprises just over 79,300 trained regular full-time personnel and just over 27,200 trained reserve part-time personnel.
