Description
The Cohortes Praetoriae originated with the emergence of great politicians needing protection. Formed from the best, bravest and most loyal legionnaires, the Praetorians were generally exempt from any standard camp duties, save for protecting their general. Service as a Praetorian guardsman not only offered elite status, but in many respects offered considerable benefits to that of the standard legionary. Now the Cohortes Praetoriae, is an elite unit of the Imperial Roman army whose members serve as personal bodyguards for the Roman emperor.
